After waiting years to be in a good position to finally adopt a dog, I was so excited to visit NCAL to meet my new best friend. The wonderful staff helped me narrow down a few different dogs, and I met them all (and loved them all). But, when they brought Sage in, the last dog I would meet, I knew she was perfect. She didn’t bark or jump. She very calmly walked up to me, sat down, and looked up at me with the most beautiful face. I took her home 2 days later!
Shortly after bringing Sage (formerly Paige) home, it became evident that she struggled with extreme fear issues. There was cowering, hiding, and lots of scared pee accidents. It was a struggle, but after a year, we were able to work through everything. And, honestly, I couldn’t have dreamed of a better dog. She loves going for hikes, to the dog park, or simply just playing fetch in the back yard. She’s the best movie watching companion with lots of couch snuggles. She’s so incredibly gentle with our foster cats and shows them there’s nothing to be scared of and gives them so much love. She helps my grandparents with their dementia and loves visiting with all the elderly at the home they are in.
She makes every single day a better day and has brought so much love and joy into my life. Her ability to overcome her fears and love people despite what happened to her in the past is inspiring.
I couldn’t have asked for a better friend.
