On July 21st, we welcomed over 60 friends to our first in-person annual meeting since 2019. We came together to celebrate everything we have accomplished as a community of animal welfare advocates in the past year. We also looked to the future and how we can continue to make progress to rescue more animals in need.

We were happy to welcome guest speaker, Deputy State’s Attorney for Lamoille County, Aliena Gerhard. Aliena spoke to the audience about animal welfare laws in Vermont, discussed challenges, and proposed solutions for strengthening the laws in Vermont and expanding legislation to protect animals. She also answered questions about what we can do to as citizens when we witness or suspect animal cruelty and how we can advocate for better systems for reporting and prosecuting in Vermont. Guests were excited to greet our special animal guest, Trooper (now called Roger)! Trooper is a local dog who was rescued in May after a life of abuse and then abandonment. (plu68.com) He spent a month recovering at NCAL before being fostered and adopted by his forever family. You can read this resilient pup’s story here. Aliena is the attorney prosecuting Trooper’s animal cruelty case this summer.
